WE ARE LOOKING FOR UMPIRES

Greater Ballarat Netball - Umpire Expression of Interest Submission

 

Venue: Selkirk Stadium

Dates: April 26th to September 12th, 2026 (not including school holidays or long weekends)

Game times: 10am, 10.50am 

*Times are subject to change and will be confirmed closer date to umpires who register their availability.

​Greater Ballarat Netball Umpire Development Program - Coming Soon

To assist in the development of our beginner umpires at the club level, the Umpire Development Program has been created to provide junior umpires with targeted coaching, development opportunities, and ongoing support - beyond what is typically offered as part of the standard setup.

The aim of the program is to: 

  • increase in the number and quality of umpires moving from entry-level to officiating Open games during the week and achieving their C Badge

  • Create a visible and aspirational development pathway for emerging umpires within the Parkville community

The program will run in 4-week blocks on Sundays, across two timeslots and 3 designated courts.

Umpire Testing

C Grade Badge

Theory pass of 70% and over in Section 1 paper and attendance at a Level 1 Umpires Course are prerequisites for testing. A 'C' grade umpire shall:

  • Have reasonable control.

  • Have good knowledge of the rules.

  • Have a voice and whistle that are loud and clear.

  • Have efficient announcement of decisions.

  • Have good coverage of the court.

  • Show good application of all general rules.

  • Apply contact and obstruction consistently.

  • Have efficient centre passes.

  • Show awareness of the Advantage Rule and apply it, for example 'Advantage Goal'


B Grade Badge

Theory pass of 80% and over and attendance at a Level 1 Umpires Course are prerequisites for testing. A B-Badge umpire shall:

  • Have good control of the game.

  • Have detailed knowledge of the rules.

  • Have a voice and whistle which are easily hea rd.

  • Make clear and precise decisions.

  • Have a very effective coverage of the court.

  • Show clear application of contact and obstruction.

  • Apply the Advantage Rule consistently.

  • Penalise all other infringements.

  • Ensure correct and efficient centre pass.

Umpires are the unsung heroes of Netball, ensuring fair play and good sporting behaviour. To ensure our Netball community is respectful and supportive, especially for our younger umpires, Netball Victoria is thrilled to introduce the ‘Netball Respect: Green Bands’ for Umpires Under 18.
